Terms & Conditions
Léa Morris Postnatal Doula
These Terms & Conditions set out the basis on which postnatal doula support is provided by Léa Morris.
They are intended to provide clarity about my role, the support I offer, my professional boundaries and what you can expect when working with me.
My aim is for your support to feel warm, respectful, flexible and centred around your individual family. These terms provide clear boundaries while recognising that life with a new baby can be unpredictable.
1. Postnatal Doula Support
A postnatal doula provides practical, emotional, informational and nurturing support to families following the birth of a baby.
My role is to support you as you adjust to life with your baby, recover from birth where applicable, develop confidence in your own choices and find your own way as a family.
I provide support without judgement and aim to respect your individual circumstances, values and parenting choices.
My role is not to tell you how you should parent. Where appropriate, I can provide information, resources and signposting to help you make informed choices.
2. What I Offer
Depending on the support agreed with you, my services may include:
-
Emotional support and a listening ear.
-
Practical support during the postnatal period.
-
Light household tasks that support the wellbeing of the family.
-
Support with everyday life with a new baby.
-
Non-clinical infant care support.
-
Infant feeding support within my training and scope of practice.
-
Signposting to appropriate healthcare professionals, organisations and community services.
-
Information and resources relating to postnatal recovery, infant care, feeding and wellbeing.
-
Support for partners and other loved ones.
-
Encouragement and reassurance as you develop confidence in your own parenting choices.
The exact support provided to you will be set out in your individual Postnatal Doula Service Agreement.
3. What I Do Not Provide
I am a postnatal doula and not a doctor, midwife, health visitor, therapist or other healthcare professional.
I do not:
-
Diagnose medical conditions.
-
Provide medical advice or clinical care.
-
Perform clinical or midwifery procedures.
-
Replace the care provided by healthcare professionals.
-
Prescribe or recommend prescription medication.
-
Make medical decisions for you or your baby.
-
Provide emergency medical care.
-
Provide specialist professional services outside my training and scope of practice.
Where something falls outside my role, I will encourage you to seek appropriate professional support and, where possible, help you identify relevant services.
4. My Role and Scope of Practice
I will work within my training, experience and professional boundaries.
I will be honest about my qualifications and experience and will not present myself as qualified to provide services I am not trained to provide.
Where your needs fall outside my scope of practice, I may recommend an appropriate healthcare professional or specialist service.
Any additional training I undertake does not change the boundaries of my role as a postnatal doula.
5. Infant Feeding Support
I may provide information, encouragement and practical support relating to infant feeding within my training and scope of practice.
I will support families with their chosen method of feeding without judgement.
Where specialist feeding support is required, I may recommend an appropriately qualified professional such as a midwife, health visitor, breastfeeding counsellor or IBCLC.
I will not diagnose feeding-related medical conditions or provide treatment outside my scope of practice.
6. Healthcare and Signposting
You remain responsible for seeking appropriate healthcare for yourself and your baby.
I may encourage you to contact your GP, midwife, health visitor, NHS service or another appropriate professional when a concern falls outside my role.
My support is complementary to your healthcare team and does not replace medical or clinical care.
7. Visits and Scheduling
The number, length and frequency of visits will be agreed with you in your individual Service Agreement.
I will make reasonable efforts to accommodate changes to your circumstances, recognising that the postnatal period can be unpredictable.
Additional hours requested outside your agreed booking are subject to my availability and will be charged at the agreed hourly rate unless otherwise agreed.
8. Communication Outside Visits
You may contact me between visits using the agreed communication methods.
Contact: 07888 472653 | leamorrisdoula@gmail.com
I generally respond to messages between 8am and 8pm and aim to reply within one hour during these hours. I may respond outside of these times when I am available.
If we agree specific communication or support hours that are different from this, these will be discussed and agreed with you in advance as part of our working arrangement.
Communication outside booked hours does not constitute an emergency service or 24-hour support.
If you or your baby require urgent medical assistance, please contact the appropriate healthcare or emergency service.
9. Fees and Payment
Your fees and payment arrangements will be set out in your individual Service Agreement.
The agreed hourly rate is £20 per hour, unless a different rate or package price has been agreed with you.
A 25% non-refundable deposit is required to secure your booking. The deposit is calculated on the cost of the service or package and does not include travel expenses. Any applicable travel costs will be added separately.
The deposit reserves the agreed time in my diary for your family and may mean that I have turned away other enquiries.
The remaining balance will be payable according to the payment arrangements set out in your Service Agreement.
Any additional services or hours must be agreed in advance where reasonably possible.
10. Deposit, Cancellation and Rescheduling
I understand that plans can change quickly after having a baby. My cancellation and rescheduling policy is intended to provide clear boundaries while allowing reasonable flexibility for new parents.
Booking Deposit
The 25% deposit is non-refundable if you choose to cancel your booking.
If your circumstances change and you need to reschedule, I will normally be happy to transfer your deposit to a new booking, subject to my availability.
If I am unable to provide the agreed support, your deposit will be refunded in full.
48 Hours or More Notice
If you give at least 48 hours’ notice before a booked visit, you can cancel or reschedule without any additional cancellation charge.
If you cancel, your deposit will be retained and any amount paid above the deposit will be refunded.
If you reschedule, your deposit can be transferred to your new booking, subject to my availability.
Less Than 48 Hours’ Notice
If you cancel or request to reschedule a booked visit with less than 48 hours’ notice, your deposit will be retained and a cancellation charge of 50% of the remaining visit balance will apply.
This reflects the time reserved for your family and the difficulty of filling a short-notice appointment.
Where you are rescheduling rather than cancelling, I will do my best to offer an alternative date or time, subject to my availability. The applicable cancellation charge will still apply because of the short notice.
Less Than 24 Hours’ Notice or Non-Attendance
For cancellations made less than 24 hours before a scheduled visit, or where you are not available for the visit without prior notice, the full remaining visit balance will be charged in addition to the non-refundable deposit.
Illness, Emergencies and Unexpected Circumstances
I understand that genuine illness, emergencies and unexpected circumstances can happen, particularly during the postnatal period.
Where a cancellation or change is due to circumstances such as:
-
You or your baby becoming unwell.
-
A medical or healthcare emergency.
-
An unexpected hospital admission.
-
A significant unexpected change in circumstances.
-
Another genuine emergency.
I may use reasonable discretion regarding the cancellation charges and may waive or reduce them where appropriate.
Baby Arriving Earlier or Later Than Expected
I understand that babies do not always arrive according to the dates families have planned around.
If your baby arrives earlier or later than expected, or your circumstances change significantly following the birth, we can discuss adjusting your support wherever possible.
I will aim to be flexible and work with you to find an arrangement that is practical for both of us.
If I Need to Cancel
If I need to cancel a booked visit because I am unexpectedly unavailable, I will let you know as soon as reasonably possible.
Where possible, I will offer an alternative date or time.
If I am unable to provide the agreed support and no suitable alternative can be arranged, any payment made for the cancelled support, including the deposit, will be refunded in full.
11. Illness and Infection
I will not attend a visit if I am unwell in a way that could reasonably put you or your baby at risk of infection.
If I become unwell, I will contact you as soon as possible and we will discuss whether the visit should be postponed, rearranged or, where appropriate, carried out remotely.
Please let me know if you, your baby or someone in your household has an infectious illness that could affect my ability to safely attend.
12. Practical Household Support
Practical household support is intended to make the postnatal period easier for you.
This may include:
-
Washing dishes.
-
Loading or unloading a dishwasher.
-
Preparing simple meals or snacks.
-
Light laundry.
-
Tidying areas used during the visit.
-
Other reasonable light household tasks agreed between us.
It does not normally include:
-
Deep cleaning.
-
Heavy lifting.
-
Heavy gardening.
-
Extensive household cleaning.
-
Hazardous cleaning.
-
Tasks requiring specialist equipment or training.
-
Tasks that I reasonably consider unsafe.
My priority during a visit remains supporting the wellbeing of the family.
13. Infant and Childcare Support
I may provide non-clinical support with everyday infant care within my role and training.
I am not a registered childminder or childcare provider.
Any arrangement involving me caring for your baby or another child without you being present must be discussed and agreed beforehand and must remain within my role, training and insurance.
I will not undertake tasks requiring specialist childcare or medical qualifications that I do not hold.
14. Personal Safety and Respectful Behaviour
I have a responsibility to work in an environment where I feel safe.
I will treat clients and their families with dignity, kindness and respect and expect the same in return.
I will not tolerate:
-
Threatening behaviour.
-
Violence or intimidation.
-
Sexual harassment or inappropriate sexual behaviour.
-
Bullying or abusive behaviour.
-
Discriminatory or hateful behaviour.
-
Deliberate behaviour that places me at unreasonable risk.
If I feel unsafe during a visit, I reserve the right to leave.
If serious or repeated concerns arise, I may end the working relationship.
15. Confidentiality
I will treat personal information shared with me during my work with you as confidential.
I will not share personal or confidential information without your permission except where I have a legal or safeguarding responsibility to do so.
Confidentiality may need to be broken where there is a serious concern about someone’s safety or wellbeing or where disclosure is required by law.
Your personal information will be handled in accordance with my Privacy Policy.
16. Safeguarding
The safety and wellbeing of babies, children and adults are important considerations within my work.
If I become concerned that a baby, child or adult may be experiencing or at risk of significant harm, I may need to take appropriate safeguarding action.
Where possible and appropriate, I will discuss concerns with you.
However, confidentiality cannot prevent me from taking appropriate action where there is a serious safeguarding concern or where I am legally required to share information.
17. Lone Working & Personal Safety
As my work involves travelling to and working in clients’ homes, I have a responsibility to maintain appropriate professional and personal safety procedures.
This may include sharing my appointment details and location with a designated person, checking in before and/or after visits, and using reasonable safety measures when travelling to or from appointments.
I reserve the right to leave or end a visit if I feel that my personal safety or wellbeing is at risk.
I will always aim to communicate this respectfully and professionally.
These procedures are in place to support safe working and do not reflect any assumption or judgement about you or your home.
18. Emergencies
I am not an emergency healthcare service.
If an emergency occurs during a visit, I will take reasonable steps to help keep you and your baby safe while appropriate emergency or healthcare assistance is obtained.
I will not delay appropriate medical care while attempting to manage a situation outside my scope of practice.
19. Photography, Social Media and Testimonials
I will not use photographs, videos, testimonials or identifiable information relating to you or your family for marketing or social media without your explicit permission.
Any consent for photographs or testimonials will be requested separately and is not a condition of receiving support.
20. Travel and Parking
Travel within 5 miles of my base in Lancaster is included in my fees.
For addresses more than 5 miles away, a travel fee of £1.10 per mile will be charged for the distance from my base to your address.
Any applicable parking fees, tolls, congestion charges or other unavoidable travel expenses will be charged separately.
21. Ending the Agreement
Either you or I may choose to end the working relationship.
Where possible, we will discuss this openly and respectfully.
I may need to end the agreement if:
-
I am no longer able to provide the agreed service.
-
Your needs have moved beyond my scope of practice.
-
I believe continuing would not be safe or appropriate.
-
There are serious or repeated breaches of these Terms & Conditions.
-
There is threatening, abusive, discriminatory or inappropriate behaviour.
-
Another circumstance makes continuing the professional relationship unreasonable.
Where I end the agreement, I will provide reasonable notice where circumstances allow and signpost you to alternative support where possible.
22. Complaints
I want you to feel comfortable and supported throughout our time together. If you have any concerns about the service you receive, please let me know as soon as you feel able to, so that we can discuss the issue and work towards a resolution.
You can raise a concern with me by email, WhatsApp or in person. I will listen to your concerns without judgement, consider the situation fairly and respond as soon as reasonably possible.
Where appropriate, I will acknowledge any mistakes or areas where I could have handled something differently and take reasonable steps to resolve the issue.
If you are unhappy with my response, please let me know and I will review the matter again.
Raising a genuine concern or complaint will not affect the way I treat you or the support I provide.

I am not responsible for medical, clinical or parenting decisions made by you or other members of your family.
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions is intended to exclude or limit liability where doing so would be unlawful.
